12 Tags of Christmas: Day 7
I’m playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas 2010. Here we are at tag #7 already. You can see my other tags by clicking the link on the left sidebar or by scrolling down to previous posts.

For my tag today, I was stumped for a few minutes on what to do for my background since I don’t have a woodgrain embossing folder. At first I considered using a piece of corrugated card stock, but nahhh…it just didn’t “work”. So, I opted for a bargain bin find at only .10 pence a sheet and pulled out this piece of faux leather distressed card stock instead. I took a poll from family members who just happened to be passing my craft room and was assured that it would make a suitable subbie. It’s kind of neat looking cardstock, and as I was buying it about a month ago, I just knew that it would be a permanent fixture on my card stock shelf. So here it is…finding a useful spot. Hope you like it too: It isn’t woodgrain, after all. I’ll have to add that one to my “wishlist.” It has been a fun adventure to play along with Tim’s 12 tags…even though I don’t have a whole stock room of Tim’s toys to play with.
Here’s a closer look…

Another substitute I made was the use of Glimmer Mist instead of Distress inks or Color Wash sprays that were used by Tim. The colors of GM that I used were Iridescent Gold, Red Velvet, Indian Corn, and Vintage Pink. I used these to color the Sticky Backed Canvas for the flower as well as the grunge board letters. It worked out well as a way of improvising. The “25″ that I used is a stamp from Winter Post that I added to a Build-a-Brad (both from Stampin’ Up!). The sugary stuff on the flower and tag are Distress Stickles in Rock Candy as per Tim’s post.

12 Tags of Christmas: Day 6
I’m playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas 2010. This is day #6. Once again, out of necessity, I made a fair amount of substitutions in creating my tag, but I really like the colors Tim chose for this one . I tend to lean towards the muted colors better.
We’re at the half-way point today. I’m so happy that I’ve been able to keep up with the posts. Thank you so much for all of your sweet comments. I’m glad to hear that you are not getting tired of seeing these tags. I’ll keep on posting them then.
Here’s my interpretation of Tim’s tag:

For my tree, I’ve used a new release Marianne Creatables die. I cut it from a manila folder and then Glimmer Misted it using Sea Glass, Olive Vine, and Honeydew. The way the colors blended it made it look more authentic, I think. I added some snow-tex to the branches. I did the reindeer according to Tim’s post, but I used regular acrylic paint to give him the blue color. For the bottom, instead of the tissue tape, I’ve once again used vellum that I stamped onto using a musical note stamp and cut into strips. The stamped snow is just acrylic paint that I’ve added Polar White Flower Soft to.

I just had to get a close-up of the tag background. I love it SO much. :c) It was kind of a ‘happy accident’ that created it. I didn’t have his flourish stamp or his texture fade so I decided to just die cut the tree (as mentioned above) and then stamp onto my tag directly. I used the Stampin’ Up! Baroque die with Sepia Adirondak ink that I stamped in 4th generation* around the tag. I then sprayed Sea Glass Glimmer Mist (GM) onto it and the GM leached onto the ink from the stamp. Its really beautiful in real life. I need to make a note of this technique so I don’t forget about it. I like the effect a lot.
*4th generation stamping is simply inking up your stamp, then stamping onto scrap paper 3 times. Then using the remaining ink that is left on your stamp you stamp onto your project. You don’t stop to reink between stampings so it creates a lighter shade of ink for a subtle finish.

If you like the look of the homemade vellum tape but would like more details on how I made it, please feel free to leave a comment and I can do a tutorial on how I created it.

Thank you for popping in to see what I’ve been up to today. I truly and always appreciate it. I hope you are having a great day. xx
12 Tags of Christmas: 5
I’m playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas 2010. This is day #5.
It’s a great Sunday and to top it off, the sun is shining; that always seems to bring a bit more cheer around my neck-of-the-woods. I’m back today with a quick tag from Tim’s Day 5 of his 12 Tags of Christmas for 2010.

I was so glad when I checked Tim’s post early this morning that this one was another “quickie” tag, as I never have a lot of time for crafting on Sundays. So if I have any creating time at all between church it has to be on-the-move. (Thanks Tim!) Once again, I’ve made a fair amount of substitutions in product that he used to create my tag. The santa, in keeping with Tim’s theme, is from an I Brake for Stamps set called Vintage Christmas. (You can save 10% ordering this using my discount code SAVE10ROBYN). I did a bit of coloring to give him a little “pop” and added white fine glitter to his cuff and hat along with a bit of bling for the holly berries on his hat. The other holly berries around the top of the tag are from a CTMH set. I stamped them in black and then added green and red glitter using heat n stick powder. The sentiment at the bottom is from a Papermania stamp set.

The poinsettia flower came from Wild Orchid Crafts, this is the small size of the two they stock. I really like them.
Here is Tim’s day 5 tag: :c)

So, I’m wondering if you all are getting tired of seeing just tags when you pop on to visit me? I’m having fun playing along, but I’m ready for something pretty. Hopefully I’ll have a bit of time this evening to see what I can come up with. Thanks so much for stopping by today. I always appreciate it. xx
12 Tags of Christmas: Day 4
I’m playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas 2010. This is day #4.
Hello Ladies,
I hope you are enjoying December as much as I am so far. I LIVE for busy, busy and absolutely love the 24 days leading up to Christmas day. Cheerfulness and smiles are in abundance as the Christmas spirit takes hold of most of the western world. The Christmas music blaring and me singing like nobody’s business trying to harmonize with good ‘ole Bing Crosby. Besides crafting, I LOVE to sing!!! Ahhhh, there is so much to do and yet I feel like I need to squeeze each and every moment out of each day because I don’t want to miss a thing. I want to be everywhere that has something “Christmassy” going on. :c) Fa la la la laaaa, la la la laaaaaa!
So this brings me to the few moments that I was able to spend in my craft room today to work on Tim’s 12 Tags of Christmas. I’m so happy to be working right along with Tim on his posting days. I just knew I was going to fall behind but so far, so good. Now, I’m not a big fan of Santa, but in keeping with Tim’s tag layout, I thought this My Mind’s Eye Signature Christmas paper stack from last year fit the bill.

I added the patterned paper to my #8 shipping tag and then cut out the santa from one of the other papers. I adhered it to the tag using dimensionals. I didn’t have the bling he used, so I simply added some ribbon, and then adhered (one-by-one) the flat-backed pearls. I added a part of a Prima Say it in Crystals and Pearls along the right side.

I made the charms with supplies from my stash. I didn’t have his gorgeous facets, so I just used a fragment and backed it with a Crafty Secrets Victorian Christmas photo. I added a Stampin’ Up! rub-on (Dec 25th) before adhering the photo to the fragment.
Here is Tim’s Day 4 tag:

I had a question about yesterday’s tag asking what I used for the snow. I didn’t have Tim’s stamp so I used an old Stampin’ Up! set called “Sprinkles”; which has a splatter stamp in it. However, I was noticing that the acrylic paint was getting a greenish tint from the inking job, so the next layer of paint I added I just used the end of a paint brush and dabbed on the paint. I finished it off by adding some Polar White Flower soft to the wet paint. Hope that makes sense. :c)
Thank you so much for all of the nice comments that I’ve received. I really do appreciate you taking the time to leave me a kind word and enjoy reading them. You make me *smile*. xx
12 Tags of Christmas: Day 3
I’m playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas 2010. This is day #3.
Hello Everyone and a very happy Friday to each of you. I’m back with my second post of the day to share my take on Day 3 of the 12 tags of Christmas by Tim Holtz. I had a chance to play a little bit this evening and was able to get caught up with Tim’s post.
Once again, I’ve improvised my way through another tag, but having a ball in the process. My craft room was a wreck though after I’d finished the two tags today.
Here’s my Day 3 tag:

This was probably the most fun tag for me of the 3 so far. I have found it to be a real challenge for me to copy-cat create. The tags are outside of my normal creating style so it has stretched me; which has been fun.

One of the things I’ve improvised on was the use of Tim’s tissue tape. I don’t have any, so what I did was stamp my musical note stamp onto vellum and once dry, I cut it into 3/4″ wide by 11″ long strips. It worked very easily to create the flower that Tim used.

I mentioned above that I don’t have Tim’s tissue tape. If you followed his post for this tag, you know that he also used the tissue tape for the collage on the bird as well. What I did to improvise on this was to stamp the musical note stamp onto glossy white cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I then alcohol inked the sheet (4″ x 6″). I cut the sheet in cattywampus strips and then adhered them onto a piece of chipboard in collage-fashion. I die cut the bird and then added Stickles as per Tim’s tag. The evergreen tree stamp that I’ve used is from Stampin’ Up!’s “Lovely as a Tree” set. The little tag at the bottom is from the Crafty Secrets Vintage Christmas sheet that I got this past summer.

Thanks for stopping by today, I really do appreciate it. Can’t wait to see the next tag challenge. xx
12 Tags of Christmas: Day 2
I’m playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas 2010. This is day #2.
Hello Lovelies,
I’m back today to share my interpretation of Tim Holtz’s Day 2 tag for his 12 Tags of Christmas 2010. This one was a pretty quick tag.
Here is my interpretation (well…actually my improvisation since I once again didn’t have several of the things he used).

I used just what I had on-hand to try and re-create what he shared on his blog. I was reading a gals blog yesterday and for Day 1 she said she made 2 separate trips out to scrapbook stores to get the needed supplies and traveled several hours to several different stores to find just what Tim used on his tags – she wanted hers to be exact. She did a great job on them. That’s one dedicated gal! :c)

Here’s Tim’s tag:

That’s it for today. His day 3 tag looks pretty simple, so I’m hoping to have time to work on that later this evening. Thanks so much for stopping by today. I truly appreciate it. xx
