Vellum Tape Technique Tutorial
Hello ladies,
Here is the promised tutorial for the vellum flower that I did during Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas: Day 3. If you recall, I didn’t have his tissue tape, so had improvised by creating my own. You can see it here. If you’d like to see Tim’s post for that day, you can see it by clicking here.
I also used this “vellum tape” to create a lovely pleated ribbon for the bottom of my tag HERE.
Sorry for such a quick post today, it’s super late and if I don’t get to bed in the next few minutes my hubby said I’d turn into a pumpkin. I have a lot more to share with you, so will be back tomorrow. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. (((Hugs)))
12 Tags of Christmas…Day 12
I’ve been playing along with Tim Holt’z 12 tags of Christmas. Can’t believe today is the final day. It’s been great fun to create all of the tags each day. Today was a bit of a challenge for me time wise. You’ll see what I mean when you scroll down. We’re now officially less than a fortnight until Christmas. Still loads of things to do, but I’m enjoying it all! I love Christmas!
Okay, so this tag was lightening fast speed. It is now 11:05 p.m., so I caught this one on just a whisper. I set my timer and went to work…

I just reached and grabbed in a mad-dash against the clock to create this one. I figured if I didn’t have time, I might as well have a bit of fun and not stress it. This is what I came up with. Not the techniques Tim shared, but that will have to be another day.

The poinsettia came from my favorite amazing mulberry paper flower stockist, Wild Orchid Crafts. The rest came from my stash. The chipboard sticker came from Poundland last Christmas and the glittery decoration under the poinsettia came from ASDA for a mere .15 pence. My hubby really thinks the little snowman in the corner is too funny; his silly little grin I suppose. :c)
Okay, so I called it done, hit the stop button, and here’s the result…

Phewwww! I need a Diet Coke!
Once again, I’m linking up to The Artistic Stamper and Arty Jen and would like to say a big thank you to both for having a place to post the tags I’ve worked on as well as see everyone else’s amazing work, and for those of you who have visited me and left such nice comments. I’ve really appreciated each one.
Hope you’re having a great weekend. Thanks for visiting me today; I truly appreciate you as well!
A hugs, “Thank you!” to Tim, for sharing his talent and inspiration. I have really enjoyed following his blog each day.
Here is the man himself’s tag for today…

12 Tags of Christmas…Day 11
I’m playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas 2010, and there’s just one day left. This was a super fast one as I had no time for crafting today. Our family was out all day ice skating and shopping; we had such a good time. I did take a peek at Tim’s tag this morning though so I knew I’d be able to slip away and take a little time for creating mine.

I used a photocopy of my son’s 1828 Webster’s Dictionary. I copied the “Christmas” entry. The rest is pretty self-explainatory. It’s not my favorite, but it was all the time I had. Hope it inspires.

There are 2 charms, an acrylic angel and then the silver snowflake on top. The stamp I used for the tag is from the Short and Sweet Stampin’ Up! set.

Here is Tim’s tag for today…

Hope everyone is having fun as you prepare for Christmas. Take time to tell someone how special they are. See you tomorrow for the final day of tags; at least for me (for a while anyway). xx
12 Tags of Christmas…Day 10
I’m playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas 2010, it’s day 10 today. Can’t believe there are only 2 days of tags left. Even more so that I’ve been able to keep up with them with all of the other Christmas things I have going on; it’s been so much fun though.
Here is what I came up with…

I was so happy to see Frosty today! I’ve been waiting patiently for Tim to use this die. :c) Once again, I needed to do a bit of improvising. I also added a few touches to make it it “my own.”

I decided to share this last photo so you could see all of the sparkle on the snowman a bit better. I painted his arms with mocha acrylic paint and then swiped the tops with espresso (just the cheapy acrylic paint). Also, you can see that I didn’t have Tim’s washers, so I just punched 3/4″ circles from Brushed Gold cardstock and made it “work.” Also, instead of stamping onto the snowman, I decided to stamp on vellum and do some embossing instead.
I almost didn’t add the overlay because the little snowman guy looked so sparkly and cute all covered in Dazzling Diamonds that I hated to add anything over it. But I decided to stick with Tim’s plan.

I didn’t have a holly punch, but then it’s so easy to just cut your own that I just made some. I cut the holly leaves free-hand from grunge paper and then used my Crop-o-dile to cut the berries from the grunge paper. I painted them and then added Stickles. For the hat, I embossed it in black and then swiped white acrylic paint over it to give it some dimension.

Here is Tim’s Day #10 tag…I really love this one!

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you’re enjoying seeing all of my tags. Hope you have a great weekend. xx
12 Tags of Christmas…Day 9
I’m playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas 2010, and here we are at day 9 already. It is my first year playing along and I am having such a great time creating all of these tags. First, I just want to say a huge thank you for the sweet comments about my hunny’s help yesterday. He and I have both really enjoyed reading your comments and e-mails. (((Hugs))) (from me not him). LOL
I was so WOWed by Tim’s tag today. I love the vintage feel and the balance of the metal and feminine. (I mean that in a nice way Tim). The pearls, tulle, embellies, rosette…all spell Y-U-M in my book. Yet it has a Tim/guy-ish balance. Anyway, enough rambling…here’s my take on his tag for today.

Once again, you’ll notice that there are quite a few things I had to improvise on. The background paper is actually a photocopy from my song book. (I told you the other day that I LOVE to sing). Tim used a song sheet of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” to stage his photo, so that was the song that I used as my background paper. I know…it’s goin’ a little “out there” in Tim wanna-be-ville land.
Hmmm, let’s see…I didn’t have the rosette die (but that was an easy one), or the tinsel trim, accoutrements, Upon a Time die, coredinations paper, charms…you get the idea. So basically all I had the same as Tim was the tag and brads for this one. It was a fun tag to work on…I love the challenge.

Here’s a close-up of my flower…you wouldn’t believe how many buttons I had to go through to find this “perfect” one. :c)

I pieced together these buttons by adding the gold do-dad to the sage button and I cut the loop off of a tree charm and attached it to a clear button. (More time spent in my button collection) Havin’ Fun though…

I’m only showing you a close-up of the brads to give my daughter, Kendalle, a little “whoot!” I didn’t have his textured hammer, so she gave me a suggestion for distressing these brads and I took her suggestion. My crafting is turning into a family-effort these days. :c) Lovin’ it and still havin’ fun. :c) The letter’s I used are from an old Sizzix font that I’ve had for years, and to improvise the paper (I didn’t have the cordinations) I used the 7-Gypsies Avignon paper that I’ve been hoarding since June. I liked that it carried through the music theme.

Thanks for visiting. xx
12 Tags of Christmas…Day 8
I’m playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas 2010. I am having so much fun with these tags, but if you could have heard me gasp when I saw his Day 8 tag you would probably have laughed at me. I didn’t have any masks or the cute little house die. I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do…

…then out from no where in particular comes my favorite super hero…my hubby! Yes, once again, my very supportive and ever-patient husband came to my rescue. To tell you how amazing this man is, he not only created the mask, but then used an x-acto knife to cut out the main image keeping it intact for me to be able to do this technique. After all, how do you do a masking technique without a mask? I know…if I had a store that carried them nearby I could have popped on in and purchased one, but unfortunately…I didn’t. Besides, I have a good thing going here…I’ve not purchased anything to be able to create the previous 7 tags, so why spoil my record. :c) Okay, so now I have the mask. (he did a great job on it, wouldn’t you agree?) So what about the cute little wonky-looking houses?

“Taa daa!” he says, as he draws 4 little wonky-looking houses onto a piece of grunge paper and cuts them out. Thanks babe, there’ll be a special little goodie in your stocking this year. :c)

So now you know my little secret…my hubby is really the one creating these tags. LOL Just kidding, he is SO not interested in crafting; he’s just a sweet guy who really loves me.
The cute little snow is just Snow-Tex that I’ve added to give it a cold-wintery feel. After all if all of the neighbors have to live in green wonky-looking houses they might as well look festive right? (Never mind the fact that I don’t own the Picket Fense Stickles that Tim used).
Okay, one last improvisation scenario I had to over come…I didn’t have ANY 26″ gauge wire…none! My sweet man didn’t even have any in his tool chest! He did offer his soldering wire though, but that was after I had found some green (yes green) floral wire in my craft stash.

I bent them all to look like chimney poof like Tim said to and then decided to try embossing them with silver embossing powder. Voilà! It worked! To spoil a good thing, I ended up hot gluing the wrong side to the back of the houses, so if you look really close, you can make out that I actually have green chimney poofs to go with my little green wonky-looking houses.
Well, that’s it for me for today. I hope you’ve enjoyed my little bit of drama with creating this tag.

Here is the source of all my grief…(jk, it was a super fun tag to create – I love a good challenge!)
Tim’s day 8 tag:

Have a super wonderful day, and thank you so much for stopping by today. I really appreciate it.
EDITED: I’ve just added a gallery (tab under blog header). You can click on it to see all of the tags that I’ve created if you’d like.
