12 Tags of Christmas: Day 3

I’m playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 tags of Christmas 2010.  This is day #3.

Hello Everyone and a very happy Friday to each of you.  I’m back with my second post of the day to share my take on Day 3 of the 12 tags of Christmas by Tim Holtz.  I had a chance to play a little bit this evening and was able to get caught up with Tim’s post.

Once again, I’ve improvised my way through another tag, but having a ball in the process.  My craft room was a wreck though after I’d finished the two tags today.

Here’s my Day 3 tag:

12 Tags of Christmas

This was probably the most fun tag for me of the 3 so far.  I have found it to be a real challenge for me to copy-cat create.    The tags are outside of my normal creating style so it has stretched me; which has been fun.

12 Tags of Christmas flower

One of the things I’ve improvised on was the use of Tim’s tissue tape.  I don’t have any, so what I did was stamp my musical note stamp onto vellum and once dry, I cut it into 3/4″ wide  by 11″ long strips.  It worked very easily to create the flower that Tim used.

I mentioned above that I don’t have Tim’s tissue tape.  If you followed his post for this tag, you know that he also used the tissue tape for the collage on the bird as well.  What I did to improvise on this was to stamp the musical note stamp onto glossy white cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  I then alcohol inked the sheet (4″ x 6″).  I cut the sheet in cattywampus strips and then adhered them onto a piece of chipboard in collage-fashion.  I die cut the bird and then added Stickles as per Tim’s tag.  The evergreen tree stamp that I’ve used is from Stampin’ Up!’s “Lovely as a Tree” set.  The little tag at the bottom is from the Crafty Secrets Vintage Christmas sheet that I got this past summer.

Here is the man himself’s tag:

Thanks for stopping by today,  I really do appreciate it.   Can’t wait to see the next tag challenge. xx

Hi Robyn,
I LOVE your tag!!! I would not want to tell Tim this, but I really like yours much better than his original (gasp! – sorry Tim!) Your tree branch looks much more “Christmas-y” than his, your bird and flower are prettier, and it’s just all together beautiful. It’s great when you can take something that’s already pretty, and add your “personal touch” and improve on the original!
I read your blog every time you post, but I don’t often leave comments due to time restraints. I do love your work, and look forward to seeing what you create next.

Merry Christmas!

Robyn, I love Tim Holtz (can I have him for Christmas?), but I have to say I like your Day 3 tag better. It’s vry pretty. I like your branch better too. What did you use for the snow. Do you have the stamp he used or did you improvise again? I ask because I have a ton of TH stuff, but so far nothing that he’s used for these tags. I’m so glad you are showing us how to make use of what we have. Thank you!

I love it! I think this one is my favorite so far! It’s like a “prettied-up” version of Tim’s! I really like the changes you’ve made! I also learned a new word and it just HAS to go on my list of favorites…it’s “cattywampus”!! I love it! Yes, I may have heard it before but never in written form or in my present mood…so never to entertain me in quite this way! Thank you Robyn! lol

WOW – this one is spectacular! I love the vellum flower. I used tissue tape on mine, but think the vellum one looks prettier. I would have thought vellum would be too stiff to crimp, but apparently not- it’s beautiful and think I’m going to try it!
